Vallis Schröteri

Schröter’s Valley winds 160 km across the Aristarchus Plateau, up to 10 km wide and 1 km deep. It begins at a 6 km depression nicknamed the Cobra’s Head and narrows as it meanders toward Oceanus Procellarum.

It is not a river valley. Sinuous rilles are lava channels — either open flows that eroded their own beds, or collapsed lava tubes. A second, smaller rille runs along the floor of the main one, suggesting a late-stage flow within an already-carved channel.
